Dialysis
Dialysis is the process uses an artificial kidney (hemodialyzer) to remove waste and extra fluid from the blood. The blood is removed from the body and filtered through the artificial kidney. The filtered blood is then returned to the body with the help of a dialysis machine. Dialysis can be billed once in a calendar month.
There are two main types of dialysis, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
- Hemodialysis uses a machine and a filter to remove waste products and water from the blood. Hemodialysis done 3 sessions per week.
- Peritoneal dialysis uses a fluid (dialysate) that is placed into the patient’s abdominal cavity to remove waste products and fluid from the body.
